I thought I'd take a moment here to show some pictures from our studio apartment La Traviata on the Rue Saint Severin...notice Rob on the bed with the computer!

Saturday, February 12

...Was a bust, and not one of those pretty ones the sculptors do, either! We took the Metro to the Catacombes-- a wild hike underneath Paris where the resistance hid out with 6 million dead Parisiens...and it was closed. We were understandably upset. But! We bravely hiked to the Observatoire Paris (not our picture)...which was also closed. From there we walked to the fountain in the Luxenborg Gardens...

Tour Montparnasse- a "banal monstrosity". See http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1203141/posts

We were here during the dat but this photo from aboutromania.com is almost as nice as ours!
...and then went up the Tower Montparnasse...which was only 1/2 closed. The 56th floor Was open but the roof was not (too windy), We saw a lovely 180 degree view of the city-- and were able to look at all the places we'd been. Then we took the Metro to the Champs d'Elysees-- the Newbury street of Paris, and we walked to the Place de la Concorde-- where 1300 nobles got their heads chopped off during the revolution. Then we walked up to L'Opera, had some dinner (Tex Mex-- and Not Bad- though it is No Border Cafe), and went home (Metro again-- it was Metro Day!)

Sunday, February 13

This morning we moved out of our lovely apartment and took the Metro across town to our new one. We have free wireless internet access here so I've been updating the website and checking emails for the last three hours. I am now officially a Geek-- in case you were wondering before this. The hotel is tres bonne and the area (the 8th arrondisement) is lovely also. We are very close to the Eiffel Tower and the Place de les Invalides. The area is upscale and non touristy (unlike our old apartment-- which was great to start with but now that I'm feeling more secure...)

C'est la Hotel Valadon- this is not our room because we ripped this pic from their website But it looks Just Like our room...

This is a picture of Balzac from notsorry.com-- it's lovely with the gold dome of Invalides in the background. I hope notsorry will forgive us!

I love the way her dress
shows movement.

Today we finally made it to the Musee Rodin... really a fabulous museum-- in a beautiful 1700's mansion with gorgeous grounds. They would be more gorgeous in the warmth of a spring day with flowers blooming, but... There was a lovely cafe with it's own CAT! We, unfortunately, did not get a picture, because the cat was only interested in begging for food and we didn't have any. To the far right is "The Waltz" by Camille Claudel-- the picture I took was wonderful. This isn't the picture I took . I actually like Claudel's sculptures better than Rodin's. She was Rodin's muse. Then we have "The Shades"-- this picture is actually a full sized statue is is actually on the grounds of the White House but you get the idea...

Monday, January 14th-- Valentine's Day!

We walked to the Eiffel Tower. It was very windy and cold (immediate right) and we didn't want to stand in line to go up so we just took a picture of her underwear (far right) and were on our way. The pictures are very impressionistic because we're using the phone camera-- the Canon is still kaput! and we are very sad. : (

From there we went to the Place De L'Opera. We went into L'Opera but decided not to walk around inside as there was not tour in English today (only on weekends). Then we went to the Galeries Lafayette (the Macy's of France) and I DID NOT BUY a THING (my Valentine's Day present to Rob)... We did, however, hit a sale at a lingerie shop beforehand...for which I Do Not have pictures. : ) The pictures at left are the ceiling dome and "balconies" of the main part of Lafayette.
